Lots of new ones this show! Also, a sudden cluster of gigs in the UK to get excited about.

Avant standard-bearers UPSILON ACRUX have a new album out now! Called 'Radian Futura' its on the ever excellent Cuneiform label; Upsilon are on top form: 'nuff said. Also played on this show was a track from their seminal 'Last Train Out' album - and the band come to the UK for the first time next month. Touring across the country but they play London THE SAME NIGHT as MAGMA fgoodnessake - 6th October at Barden's Boudoir. Also coming to London are the magnificent KAYO DOT, who play London 11th Sept at Cafe Oto - both Kayo Dot and Upsilon Acrux are looking for a few more European and UK dates to fill their schedules, contacts for both regarding this are on www.myspace.com/upsilonacrux and www.myspace.com/kayodot

Three-piece NITKOWSKI are from London, they’ve only been playing live since April 08 but have real depth; they play 93 Feet East, Brick Lane on Tuesday supporting Knifeworld and they're releasing a great debut album, 'Chauffeurs', on 7th Sept on Function Records - www.myspace.com/nitkowski - they share their label with another southern England band, ON HISTORIES OF ROSENBURG who have a nice four-track EP out 31st August, CD/download, and touring now www.myspace.com/ofrosenberg or www.functionrecords.com - oh, and Nitkowski's album is mastered by James Plotkin, he of PHANTOMSMASHER fame... On Histories are at the Old Blue Last, London, on 24th August

Still in the UK - there's a world class avant-jazz band in Walthamstow, they're called LED BIB and even more shockingly have been nominated for the Mercury Music Awards this year! Their album is called 'Sensible Shoes', they're playing the Luminaire, Kilburn, London on 28th August. More from www.ledbib.com or www.cuneiformrecords.com

FOOT VILLAGE are a drum-n-shout band from Los Angeles - they seem to involve four (count em!) drummers, a lot of shouting and they have a cracking new album called Anti-Magic out on Upset The Rhythm here in the UK any moment now. The band claim to operate with “pure hardcore spirit without a spark of electricity” – www.myspace.com/footvillage or www.upsettherhythm.co.uk

Absolutely not neo anything, Suffolk pastoralists THE FUTURE KINGS OF ENGLAND have a new album just out, called 'The Viewing Point' - as good as anything they've done before www.backwaterrecords.com or www.myspace.com/thefuturekingsofengland

Meanwhile, MAGMA play a one-off UK show at the Barbican here in London on 6th October with Chrome Hoof supporting - info/videos on Barbican web site - if you don't know Magma, they're kind of hard to describe in a couple of lines. Seventies band, still going strong, sing in an invented alien language called Kobaian, influence on much played in this show. 'The Last Seven Minutes' is from their very accessible (but still mad) album 'Attahk' www.seventhrecords.com

Montreal based (surprisingly) veteran avant-proggers MIRIODOR release their seventh album - titled 'Avanti', it, like so many good things, is available from Cuneiform - www.cuneiformrecords.com or www.myspace.com/miriospace

Finally, a taste of the very fine forthcoming album from Paris based band WE INSIST! Out on Exile On Mainstream on September 14th – www.myspace.com/weinsistband or www.weinsist.com or www.mainstreamrecords.de

Excitement!
