Lisa from UKHM, just put up a link to this, someone had posted it on their boards, worth repeating here as well... I hate crap like this and as Sean keeps saying, this all needs yelling about...
Battle For Bloodstock/Metal 2 The Masses - Scam Of The Year?
« on: 20 February 2009, 03:33 »
I saw a gig listing on the front page for "battle for bloodstock" and decided to google for more information. Finding eventually this:
http://www.bloodstock.uk.com/metal2themasses.htm
a series of gigs at these venues: http://www.bloodstock.uk.com/metal_to_masses.php The "London venue" is miles from London...

This kinda shit really gets up my nose. Firstly: It's an audition. Yet they're strutting around getting venues to sign up to their "franchise". That's right, getting local venues to sign up to a franchise (I assume pay them a load of money) where they can put on local bands that they already know.
How can any venue owner pass up "BY BECOMING AN AFFILIATED PARTNER YOUR VENUE WILL BE GIVEN IT'S OWN SECTION ON THE ONE AND ONLY BLOODSTOCK WEBSITE AND MYSPACE SITE, WHICH IS SEEN BY THOUSANDS OF METALHEADS AND INDUSTRY TYPES ALIKE. IN 2008 THE OFFICIAL SITE RECIEVED ON AVERAGE NO LESS THAN 10 THOUSAND UNIQUE HITS A WEEK INCREASING TO 30,000 HITS A WEEK ON THE RUN UP TO AND DIRECTLY AFTER THE EVENT!"
A section? I've just measured on my screen and it's 5 1/2 inches on a web page. That's not really a section anymore than a paragraph is a chapter. Sorry if this offends anyone but my bullshit detector just exploded. This is the worst pisstake of the unsigned band scene I've encountered since I heard of Emergenza. If they want to find out which bands are shit hot and worth putting on, they certainly don't need a battle of the bands for it but oh yes, this is the route where they can charge bands to play for them rather than just going to their normal gigs and paying the bands to see them play.
I found this, oddly enough not on the main bloodstock site (it's on the Grand Central myspace blog) "There is a £30 charge per band to enter the contest which is put towards the costs & work in arranging the event & providing the backline amps etc. This is payable in advance of the heats." Absolutely incredible. Charging for an audition for one gig? They should be ashamed of themselves and the venues involved should know better.
