On track for our own Apocalypse, a potted picture look at Ex Gratia's first year can found for three weeks only, down at our one of our most coveted of venues - the multifaceted Inn on the Green, Ladbroke Grove - and is free for all. The collaborators for this cacophony of eye candy are Queen Surreal herself - Miss Roberts of Rude Mechanicals fame and Anarchistwooder's Punkvert and Kodek. Expect images of a prank rock nature (professionally distorted for your convenience) and selected covers from the earlier Ex Gratia works.
...and so ends the first year of Ex Gratia Recordings. An exciting time it was, too. Up and down, down and up, in and out, we enjoyed it - das abyss abseiling, we all are. The Ex Gratia Year (ExG) Calendar started it's life, on what is know in the common era as 04/04/08, with the double release party for Rude Mechanicals 'Irritating Fly' 7" single and the cursed and beautiful debut double album from Anarchistwood - ' Blessed Are The Cracked, For They Let In The Light'. One Sun cycle later the storm appears to have passed and we are once again sailing in favourable seas. Onwards and upwards. The second year already sees new friends and some hideously talented people. Frighteningly talented, in fact and we are inspired. Inspired enough to state that several Ex Gratia releases and regular nights are being planned by the family, with details to follow soon. Talking of inspiration, the title of the exhibition is an ode to and a line from, our most ever adored film 'Southland Tales'. This masterpiece of high brow weirdness and rich, dark humour comes from writer/director - Richard ' Donny Darko' Kelly and in our eyes certainly makes case for the Punkvert Film of the Century Award.
Two events relating to this exhibition are happening at the Inn, the first in the form of the exhibition opening event, which takes place on Sunday 10th May 2009. Entertainment for the proletariat and freak alike, comes from Cursors frontgrrrl, the enigmatic, forlorn piano maestro and composer Gilly Spencer and the wickedly heart-wrenching sounds of The Doomed Bird of Providence (Laily Recordings/Ex Gratia). This free event starts at 7pm and takes place in the bar of Inn on the Green.
Three weeks later sees the Ex Gratia crew return to entertain all and sundry with Specialisation is for Insects - part III, the final instalment of three nights promoting the same titled LP anthology of flick switching music from Ex Gratia.
