Leicester's legendary Charlotte returns - as pay to play!

Had enough of promoters who think Pay 2 Play in all forms is OK? Had enough of the way some promoters treat bands and us paying gig goers? Sick of battle of the bands crap, vote for this and that, forced ticket buys, want to tell us about the GOOD promoters? This all started on My Space until they started removing what we were saying...

Apologies for falling out the loop with Organ for ages but thought this would be of interest to you guys. After several months of lying empty the charlotte has been resurrected by a collective running as social enterprise; I naively thought cool we could have our own version of Bradford's 1 in 12 here. I messaged them at the weekend as I'm looking to book a free gig for local bands in support of Leicester's music/arts forum Pineapster; here is there response:

Hi,

I am not sure how this would work as we now charge unsigned bands a deposit of 33 pounds to play or 45 pound to headline. We then issue the bands with 3 pound tickets and when they come back in they get their deposit back anything over the deposit they get a split any thing under is off set against their deposit. We have to do this as one of the main factors of the Charlotte closing down was promoting unsigned nights and losing money do to poor attendance. This way we can guarantee an income and keep the place open and remember any money made over and above our running costs is re-invested back into The Charlotte.

You would have to pass this policy on to your bands and have an entrance fee or you would have to cover the cost which is min of 144 pounds (4 acts) if you wanted to have it as a free night.( Sunday/Monday/Tuesday/poss weds/ only)

I hope you will be able to work with this as we want to support as many unsigned acts as we can. Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further questions you may have.
