THE DETAILS AND LINKS....
Chicago underground legends, pranksters and all round undefinables CHEER ACCIDENT have just released this new and entirely breathtaking album 'Fear Draws Misfortune' - possibly a career peak after over 20 years of brilliance in obscurity (they do everything differently). www.cheer-accident.com or www.cuneiformrecords.com
Cracking debut album from these French dada-Zappa-Bunglists VLADIMIR BOZAR 'N' ZE SHERAF ORKESTAR - the album is called 'Universal Sprache' - great cover/packaging, rather exciting band www.myspace.com/vladimirbozar
Seattle/New York complex, mega-tight avant jazz/punk/prog/everything band CAPILLARY ACTION are on a massive European tour, including loads in the UK - see the Organ Gig Guide for London dates (18th March, Old Blue Last, 19th Cross kings etc) - hell of an effort for an small independant US underground band so don't miss. These tracks are all from their 2008ish album 'So Embarrassing' available via www.pangaearecordings.com or www.myspace.com/capillaryaction
London mathists INSTRUMENTS are playing a FREE GIG at RoTa, the regular Saturday afternoon free event at Notting Hill Arts Club - its on the main road close to Notting Hill tube, doors open 4pm until around 7pm – www.myspace.com/instrumentsmakemusic
BIRDSONGS OF THE MESOZOIC are a unique quartet (three keyboards, one guitar usually) hailing from Boston, involving people from Mission Of Burma; these tracks are from a great double album retrospective out late last year on Cuneiform (yep, I know... again, but if they keep sending us albums of this quality then we can't not play it, can we?) called 'Dawn Of The Cycads' - its all their early releases from 1983 - 1987. www.birdsongsofthemesozoic.com or www.cuneiformrecords.com
UNLEARN are from Seattle, this is from their finely crafted instrumental album 'Places' just out on NoiseOrder - www.noiseorder.com
UNIVERS ZERO are a seminal avant rock band, been going since the 70s and still gigging and gaining new respect; this track was recorded live in Hanover, March 1984. Its from the recently released nicely presented re-issue album 'Relaps: Archives 1984-1986' full of rare live stuff - www.cuneiformrecords.com
From 'Out Of The Woods' an essential compilation of their BBC Sessions, GENTLE GIANT are also a seminal 70s rock band, but unlike Univers Zero they split long ago, lost contact with the real world and think that nobody listens to this stuff any more (one of them is an A&R head of a major label). www.progressiveears.com is a good place to demand they reform, let off steam etc.
GUTBUCKET are a weirdass jazz/avant squonk quartet from New York with a great live reputation and a new album 'A Modest Proposal' out now on Cuneiform, from whence this track came. - www.cuneiformrecords.com
London band THE LAKE SITUATION rather quietly released this excellent self-titled album last year, they're a long-evolving project from Tim Ineson, main man of ahead-of-their-time London band Nub; this is on And Then Records (dist Cargo) www.andthenrecords.com
Next Sunday at 9.00pm Sean O on air with a whole bag load of the adventurous outsider music we talk of on the pages of Organ...
