A big OtherRockShow welcome to CAPILLARY ACTION a Seattle band/project making tuneful/twisted/complex stuff that's like concentrated essence of contemporary avant rock - these tracks were from new album 'So Embarrassing' - available via www.pangearecordings.com / www.capillaryaction.net
PERHAPS CONTRAPTION are a growing UK outfit who are just finishing their first album - this was a taster they kindly sent us. If you see a giant lobster made of sand on the South Bank at low tide, give the sculptors money, and that album might get finished quicker! (Not the giant pan of bacon and eggs, that was a bunch of imposters taking advantage of their absence whilst at Glastonbury). The singer is known as The Squire and there's a touch of Gong about them; what's not to love? www.myspace.com/perhapscontraption oh, and go check out the video and the visual side of their adventure over at www.perhapscontraption.co.uk
A new track HARVEY MILK, from a stonking new album, 'Life... The Best Game In Town' which is out July 7th on Hydrahead. Recently reformed, with ex-Thrones bassist. I think they're from Athens, Georgia; they make the stickiest swampiest, monstrous uberSabbath dirge this side of OXBOW... and both bands are touring together soon! (btw the Harvey Milk album is worth possessing in the flesh for the sleeve notes and the terrible photograph). Oxbow's frontman Eugene is a live legend; expect sold out venues: July12, Supersonic Festival Birmingham, July13 Glasgow ABC2, July14 Ruby Lounge Manchester, July15 Underworld London - www.myspace.com/harveymilk or www.hydrahead.com
...debut album out on 18th August 08 for VESSELS - called White Fields and Open Devices - epic post-rock with depth and heart, they're from Leeds, www.vesselsband.com or www.cuckundoorecords.com
ENABLERS are a San Francisco based band, this was from their essential 'Output Negative Space' album' they're back to the UK in late summer. www.myspace.com/enablers
ZAG AND THE COLOURED BEADS are a very underground outfit, one of the few doing avant rock in the UK in the mid 80s, now reformed and playing gigs! Great live, playing the Hope & Anchor 24th July, more from www.zatcb.co.uk
So we raided the pile of CDs in the loo at ResonanceFM: Sean treated you to Thor last week, but I got luckier with the MOTOR TOTEMIST GUILD raritiy; members are in Thinking Plague, hence brilliance. Currently on Cuneiform Records, this track was from Archive Two, released in 1996 on the No Man's Land label, try and find out more via or www.rotarytotem.com or www.cuneiformrecords.com
AHLEUCHATISTAS are a trio from Asheville, Carolina, playing mega-complex but warm and gritty avant rock; this was from the 2006 Cuneiform album 'What You Will' - possibly the best introduction to them, if you want more; available from www.cuneiformrecords.com More info: www.ahleuchatistas.com
A play from last year's SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM album 'In Glorious Times' which just gets better every time played. One of the finest bands on the planet....www.sleepytimegorillamuseum.com
VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR are back! Reformed a couple of years ago, still excelling themselves and a lot of others. From this year's album 'Trisector'. – taste some classic VdGG downloads at www.vandergraafgenerator.co.uk
Don't try Googling for UK math rock band YOU SLUT! - far better to avail yourself of these links: www.myspace.com/youslut1 or www.stressedsumorecords.com - this was from the album 'Critical Meat' (stop press, Googling them works fine!)
The ever good 31KNOTS have a new album called Worried Well in the way, a first taste from us, expect some more soon - www.polyvinylrecords.com or www.myspace.com/31knots
Finally, an outro from Vessels and another couple of minutes of the fine bew album that's out in August...
Good hunting - Marina
