Hi Sean,
We've just had this arrive unsolicited in our inbox...
Not sure if these guys are dodgy Pay 2 Play types, but the 'fill in our online application form' sounds a bit wrong not to mention 'opportunity to get prizes and endorsements from our sponsors'.
Feel free to mention them in your gloriously enjoyable blog...
cheers
dave

Hi there!
Thought you might be interested in knowing that we have 25-minute slots available at the Bull & Gate, the Purple Turtle, Dingwalls and The Forum for the London 2008- 2009 Emergenza shows.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to be eligible, you must live in London or surrounding areas within the M25 (or max 1 hr distance) and play ONLY original songs. And sorry, no backing tapes or DJ's, just LIVE music. Likewise, minimum age requirement to participate is 18+ for all musicians in the band. This is an amazing opportunity to get prizes and endorsements from our sponsors.
.
So if you're up for it, complete your on-line Application Form by clicking on http://www. emergenza. net/document/book/iscri. asp?lang=eng and we'll get back to you ASAP with the next steps to follow to book your slot.
Cheers!

Well now, if you go do a search on Emergenza you'll find lots of 'interesting' things about their operation and the experiences of other bands, I think there's something about them on the Organ forum - http://organart.freeforums.org/index.php. And ask yourself this, if they claim to be "The 1 International Showcase for Up&coming Bands" then just who has emerged from their showcases?
Bottom line as far as I'm concerened is that if it looks dodgy then it probably is and you bands should avoid these situations, up to you to work it out though, go have a look at their site and see what they're about and work it out for yourselves.
Bands should never pay to play, or get involved in forced ticket buys, or these vote for us situations, and like we've said far too mant times already, all these battle of the bands things where the event is about numbers of mates paying to get in and who's friends drink most and all utter bulshit and frankly if you bands fall for it then it serves you right... all of it looks like you're being used from over here.
Look, if your band is any good then just get your music out there, send it to the music websites who cover new bands and demos and write abou tthe music that excites you, send it to the radio stations who play demos and news bands - John Kennedy at XFM, those Organ people at Resonance FM (I hear that's a good place to get your music heard), generate a buzz that excites the real promoters and makes them want to put you on - you know what FM Flash, you say you read our blogs, I wonder why you don't follow it up and actually send in some music, you'd get some radio play and good coverage from us, up to you really, if you don't think its worth a stamp and a CDr then fine, I know what i'd be doing if it were my band.
YOU BANDS NEED TO JUST PUT A LITTLE MORE OLD SCHOOL EFFORT IN TO IT, A LITTLE MORE THAN JUST PUTTING UP A MY SPACE PAGE that gets you nothing much more than people like the Pay To Play Battle of the bullshit types spaming your in boxes. My Sapce is great if you use it right, takes a little more than just sticking a page up though...
old school effort is certainly paying off for bands like To The Bones
Send your music to the people who help create a buzz and spread the word, the websites that review demos, that places cover music like yours, send it directly to the people who run good gigs, to promoters who you see putting on good gigs - Silver Rocket, Badge Of Friendship, Twee as F, Goonite, the Artrocker team, there's loads of people putting on small gigs and doing it the right way, people who get excitined about music and put together good exciting balanced cross-pollinating bills
There's lots more about this on the Organ Forum, the info is there for you to use, get involved, ask others, tell people what hsppened to you at these events - http://organart.freeforums.org/index.php
I'm getting a little bored with repeating all this now, and I;m sure more are fed up with reading it. You shouldn't need to ask us really, it all looks rather obvious, thanks for pointing it our FM BLEED, NICE SOUND YOU HAVE THERE, YOU KNOW WHERE WE ARE IF YOU WANT OUR COVERAGE, RADIO PLAY...
GO MAKE USE OUR FORUM AND ASK OTHERS AND SEE WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING.... Have a nice day now

The enrollment fee PER BAND is $70.00 in US and 75CAD$ in Canada. This ONE TIME enrollment fee guarantees the band’s participation in the Elimination round of the festival in their city. The participants will under no circumstances whatsoever be required to pay further fees to the organization.
I think that's called PAY TO PLaY don't you?
